When it comes to the gift of prophecy today, many Christians are hungry for the real thing.
We’ve suffered embarrassment, confusion, and dismay over false prophecies, selfish motives, and abusive behavior from those who claim to speak for God. Yet we know the Holy Spirit distributes gifts according to his will for our common good. Scripture tells us he offers the gift of prophecy for our strength, encouragement and comfort. We’re instructed to pursue it—and we’re told how to do so within healthy guidelines!
Toward that end, I offer an original, Scripture-saturated training in prophetic ministry foundations based on my master’s thesis on the topic. The training is available as a live workshop for churches. (The same teaching is available via video sessions, although practical exercises are not included.) A 50-page workbook accompanies the live or video teaching and offers comprehensive notes and extra resources. Order the workbook HERE. The video sessions can be found on YouTube:
You can watch my sermon on “The Spiritual Gift of Prophecy” at River City Church HERE.
Topics for a solid foundation:
I discuss how Old Testament and New Testament prophecy are similar yet different, what the gift of prophecy looks like, how to set healthy boundaries for prophecy (including how to evaluate prophetic words), the difference between the gift of prophecy and the role of prophet, how women fit into the prophetic picture, and how all these elements apply to daily life. I also clarify the arguments on both sides regarding whether supernatural spiritual gifts are valid today.
The live workshop offers a fuller experience by including a variety of practical exercises in a worshipful atmosphere so attendees can practice the gift of prophecy in a safe environment.
From attendees:
“This was a fabulous, grace-filled, factual and truth-centered teaching that really ministered to my heart and spirit.”
“God really wanted me out of my shell. I gained understanding and courage.”
“I really needed this. I always hesitate because I feel afraid that it’s just me. This has given me more confidence to follow promptings and not miss blessing someone out of fear and lack of confidence.”
“Everyone at my table was so thankful and really glad they attended. God met us all there and we each heard and got messages that we all were thankful for.”
In addition to the workshop, which works well as a Saturday morning event, I’m also available to preach on a Sunday morning. (To listen to my sermon on “Covenant Friendship,” click here: River City Church.)
